Ben McBean
Ben McBean is a former Royal Marine Commando who survived life-changing injuries during his deployment to Afghanistan in 2008, losing both his left arm and right leg in an IED explosion. Refusing to be defined by his injuries, Ben has since become a powerful voice of resilience, determination, and post-traumatic growth within the veteran community.
Just weeks into recovery, Ben set himself the goal of running the London Marathon, a feat he later completed multiple times, including one where he ran on a prosthetic leg for Help for Heroes. He has also conquered challenges such as Everest Base Camp, the Three Peaks, and the world’s largest poppy run.
Since leaving the military, Ben has become a sought-after motivational speaker, property developer, and media personality, appearing on national television and using his platform to inspire others facing adversity. He also co-founded the restaurant Brown & Bean and continues to champion veterans’ causes across the UK.
Ben’s message is simple but powerful: “what matters is not what happens to you, but what you do next.”
Following his medical discharge due to a combat-related injury and PTSD, Craig became a leading voice in mental health awareness and veteran recovery. He now runs The Maverick Survival School, using nature-based training and lived experience to help others rebuild confidence, purpose, and resilience.
When he’s not inspiring others through his story of resilience and drive, Ben can be found championing veterans’ voices as part of Force Media’s ‘Showcasing The Outstanding Role of the Military’ #STORMtour
