Liz McConaghy
Liz ‘Chinook Crew Chic’ McConaghy is the longest-serving female crew member in the history of the RAF’s Chinook Force, with a 17-year career that included multiple frontline deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. At just 21, she became the youngest aircrew member deployed to Iraq and served as the sole woman on her wing for four years.
As part of the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT), Liz flew into active conflict zones to extract wounded personnel under fire, facing extreme operational pressure and surviving a near-fatal wire strike during her service.
Since leaving the RAF, she has become a powerful voice for mental health awareness and veterans’ wellbeing. Her bestselling memoir, Chinook Crew ‘Chick’, offers a raw, honest account of combat, trauma, and recovery, cementing her role as a leading advocate and inspirational speaker within the armed forces community.
Liz also champions the STORM Programme for Force Media, helping to shine a light on the outstanding individuals and stories within the military world through Force Media’s ‘Showcasing The Outstanding Role of the Military’.
